2025 EGRA wrap up

As we start the new year, it is a perfect time to reflect on what has been a busy and impactful 12 months for East Greenwich. Staying true to our mission to create a cleaner, safer, and more vibrant neighbourhood, we have been working hard to ensure residents have a meaningful voice in the changes affecting our community. Here is a recap of our key activities in 2025 and a look at what is coming up in 2026.

Planning and development

East Greenwich remains a complex area with significant regeneration planned and ongoing. Our focus has been on ensuring that development respects local heritage and character while providing necessary infrastructure.

  • Protecting our heritage: We are pleased to report progress on the Winding Gear listing, ensuring a piece of our industrial history is recognised.

  • Challenging over-density: We submitted a robust response to the Peninsula Gardens application. We raised significant concerns regarding the scale of the scheme (1,251 units) and the pressure this places on local infrastructure. We also pushed for binding commitments on affordable family housing.

  • Infrastructure monitoring: We continue to monitor upcoming developments, including the SGN site, the Thames Path, and the latest plans for the Arches. We are keeping a close eye on street hubs and permissions granted to ensure they do not negatively impact the public realm.

Traffic and transport

Traffic remains a major concern for our community, specifically the volume of traffic and air quality issues.

  • The 386 Saga: We have continued to advocate for residents regarding the 386 bus route, pushing for reliable service that meets the needs of our area. See more here

  • Construction traffic: In our responses to developments like Peninsula Gardens, we have demanded clear Construction Environmental Management Plans to manage noise, dust, and vehicle routing.

Licensing and public nuisance

We have been very active in representing our members’ views on licences that prioritise commercial convenience over community wellbeing.

  • Labyrinth Festival: We formally objected to the proposed extension of the Labyrinth x ORNC music festival from 6 to 9 nights. We argued that nine consecutive nights of amplified music risks cumulative sleep disruption that cannot be reasonably absorbed by local households.

  • Licensing Policy & CIZ: We responded to the Council's draft Statement of Licensing Policy 2026. We strongly advocated to retain and strengthen the Cumulative Impact Zone (CIZ) covering East Greenwich. We also requested that the CIZ boundary be extended eastwards to better protect residential streets. See more here

  • Papa John’s: We objected to the application for 24-hour operations, citing the prevention of public nuisance. We highlighted the safety hazards posed by delivery drivers illegally using Fingal Street as a cut-through. See more here

Greening and public realm

Enhancing green infrastructure and local green space remains a top priority.

  • Community spaces: It has been a successful year for our green spaces, with ongoing work at the Rose Garden, Glenister Green, and Woodland Walk

  • Looking forward: We are engaging with RBG plans to ensure our open spaces work for all users.
