Support Christchurch School Community Garden
CHRISTCHURCH SCHOOL COMMUNITY GARDEN (CSCG)
The Christchurch School Community Garden is an exciting new project to transform Christchurch School’s outdoor area into a thriving community green space in East Greenwich.
WE NEED YOUR VOTE
WE HAVE BEEN SHORTLISTED BY THE COUNCIL TO RECEIVE FUNDS FROM THE NEIGHBOURHOOD GROWTH FUND TO PAY FOR A NEW OUTDOOR CLASSROOM/COMMUNITY HUB AND OTHER THINGS ON OUR WISH LIST BELOW.
YOU CAN ONLY VOTE UNTIL SUNDAY 4th MARCH.
If you live in this area, (we are AREA 2) there are 2 ways to vote for us:
• You can vote on the council website at www.royalgreenwich.gov.uk/growthfund (you’ll need to set up an account to vote but it’s very simple and just takes a minute or two)
• You can pop into one of the borough’s main libraries (Greenwich Centre, Eltham, Woolwich) and vote in person by putting a written slip into a voting box.
DETAILS OF OUR PROJECT
The Community Garden aims to connect children, families and the elderly living in the East Greenwich community by providing a green hub in which to meet. The benefits of our lovely outdoor space will include food growing and cooking education for children and families and an opportunity for everyone to learn new skills (including beekeeping). Just visiting this beautiful green space offers a sense of well-being and community.
We have applied for funding for the provision of a large wooden Pagoda to use as an outdoor classroom and meeting hub. Children of Christchurch School and others will be able to take classes outside during the school day whatever the British weather throws at them. The wider community will also be able to use the space to hold classes and meetings. Other things on our wish list include:
a greenhouse, a complete Forest School upgrade and management plan incl. training for leaders a beehive with equipment and training for keepers plus a trained keeper to manage the hive for a year while others train up. cold frames to keep young plants warm at night modification to current and creation of new public access points sustainable, eco-friendly pathways to allow access for the disabled and elderly
We would love members of our local community to help create and run this wonderful project.
We will be holding local community meetings across the area soon.
Details of these meetings, garden news and upcoming garden events will be sent via email, listed on our webpage at www.koinoniafederation.org/community-garden or on a Notice Board at the garden.
Find us in the garden every Friday between 10am and 2pm. (eventually, we hope to be open every day)
