Deadline approaching for Silvertown Tunnel consultation
These two proposed tunnels will roughly double the capacity of the existing Blackwall Tunnel, making it bigger than the Dartford crossings. TfL have argued in favour and have an online consultation open till 19 December.
We only have a week left to make our views known and if we are happy with paying tolls for all the tunnels. Opponents of the new tunnels are grouped under the No to Silvertown Tunnel campaign.
EGRA's concern is that doubling traffic through the tunnels will add to the huge pressure on our local roads. The short delays at the existing tunnel will simply be displaced elsewhere on our highly congested road system in East Greenwich, and beyond. It is likely that pollution, already well above legal limits near to the A102 and A2, will increase. Air pollution is a major cause of premature death in London, and seriously affects children's health.
EGRA will publish its consultation response on the website shortly. In the meantime, if you can please take ten minutes amidst the Christmas festivities to complete the short TfL online survey form and make your views known about a project that will affect South East London traffic more than any other.
