East Greenwich safer neighbourhood team tackles crime and supports residents

The East Greenwich Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) has had a busy start to 2025, focusing on anti-social behaviour and theft across the ward. Their work has led to several arrests, major property recoveries and ongoing support for vulnerable residents.

Cracking down on shoplifting and theft

Through Operation Retail, officers targeted shoplifting on Trafalgar Road. They made:

  • 16 arrests

  • 29 stop and searches (2 of which led to drug seizures)

In a separate case, the team arrested a prolific offender for multiple crimes, including parcel theft, drug offences and motor vehicle crime. A search of the suspect’s property uncovered:

  • Stolen parcels

  • Trader’s tools

  • Pedal bikes

  • Blue badges

  • A large quantity of drugs

More than 200 items are now under investigation, with officers aiming to secure the maximum number of charges.

Local businesses played a key role by sharing information that helped identify and stop the offender.

Public engagement and street briefings

The team is holding two open street briefings in April:

  • 11 April at 16:00

  • 26 April at 15:00
Both at The Forum, Trafalgar Road SE10

These are open to all residents and provide a chance to raise concerns or ask questions.

The next East Greenwich Ward Panel meeting is on 30 April 2025. Residents can email the team at EastGreenwich.SNT@met.police.uk to join.

Helping people in crisis

A significant part of the team’s work involves supporting people experiencing mental health crises. Officers assist with mental health assessments, often working alongside London Ambulance Service and Oxleas NHS staff.

These joint efforts aim to reduce reoffending by connecting people to appropriate care and support. The team notes that many local crimes involve people in crisis, so early intervention is a priority.
